A heavy heart today. It’s while at my office earlier today that I overheard the radio playing Que Sera Sera in the showroom where I’m employed. My heart skipped a beat and I knew right away that this lovely lady was gone. All I had to do was open my facebook link and the news was fast becoming common knowledge to film fans around the world.
I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve had a crush on Doris Day since I was a teenager discovering her films opposite Rock Hudson and all the rest of her leading men from James Garner to Clark Gable to Jimmy Cagney. Her voice is pure and that of an angel when she sings. Being a true blue country music fan I used to wish that in the 80’s and 90’s she might join some of the legends in song. I could easily imagine her singing with the likes of Ray Price, George Jones or Conway Twitty if the song was just right. I guess it wasn’t meant to be.
Doris has been featured here a number of times since starting up Mike’s Take including a recent feature on her role opposite Ronald Reagan in The Winning Team as I kicked off this years baseball season. Here’s a look back at some of the films I’ve spotlighted starring this beautiful lady who championed the love of animals for years which only endeared her to me all the more.

I’ve always enjoyed this early title in her career that’s just loaded with cameos from the Warner Brothers stable, It’s a Great Feeling.
I had to pause today to wonder if I actually had any of Doris Day’s movie posters in my collection and while there are plenty I wish I did have, I did pick this treasure up a year or so ago giving me at least one to call my own.

Mike's Take On the Movies 
Yes, very sad indeed…one of my favorites, and I still have a lot of her films yet to see. I guess it would have to be her Hitchcock film where I first noticed her (and her TV series before that), but then I dove into her ’60s comedies, and I was hooked. Hard to believe that her last film came out over fifty years ago. Nice post, Mike.
Fifty years! Hard to believe she never came out of retirement though I’m sure there were plenty of offers. So many stars of her era were cranking out TV movies and turning up on Dynasty/Dallas type show. Her films have become a time capsule to simpler, gentler times that make for wonderful journey’s via the TV set.
Such a talent. So sad she is no longer with us.
One of those stars who just seemed genuine and appreciative. Would loved to have sat down with her and talk about anything from pets to music to movies etc….

Thanks. Would like to add some of her well known titles to my collection but if they don’t present themselves will always have her movies to watch whenever I want to go back in time.
She was great. Only recently I re-watched The man who knew too much (and wrote about it in my blog), she’s gorgeous in that movie! May she rest in peace.
That she was. She’ll be fondly remembered by those of us who love classic music and cinema.
