Not an easy thing to put together tonight friends. But it is with a deep love and affection that I shine the light on man’s best friend. For me this gallery serves as a form of therapy today.
In our home’s case it has been a Saint Bernard for over twenty years. Four furry friends in total equaling almost 800 pounds of loyalty and love.
Handsome Samson was born in October of 2005 making him slightly over ten and a half years old. Sadly, his body couldn’t keep up with his inner spirit, warm eyes and wagging tail. We lost him today and while this is the toughest of posts, I wanted to shine the light on the gentleness of one of the largest breeds of dogs known to man.
For those of you who offer a dog a good home and love, God bless you. For those who have pondered giving a dog, big or small a loving home, go for it as the rewards and affection received in return are plentiful.
Miss Shirley showing us just how easy it is to handle these big guys.
Donna Reed with the cutest of puppies. Believe me they grow fast and they grow large.
Buster and one of the big ones.
Lazing about, Gary Cooper and pal taking an afternoon nap.
Who’s more lovable in this ad?
Miss Betty and woman’s best friend.
Call of the Wild 1935 …… Gable ……
and co-star Loretta
Even as a kid long before I actually owned my first Saint, I was captivated by the breed thanks in part to Cujo.
The only thing I can say about this pic is…. “Been there. Done that.”

Sorry to hear this news. Every St. Bernard I’ve met has been pretty awesome or noble or goofy in a good way, so I’m sure you’ll remember the good times and let those overtake the sad one from today. Oh, that dog in the Carson ad looks as if he’s guarding the beverages so Johnny can’t have seconds. 😀
Thanks pal. They are such a loyal breed. Carson ad is the only one he ever did if I heard right in a recent bio that was out on him. And Johnny didn’t need any seconds!
Sorry to hear this, always a heartbreak and tough thing when you have a beloved pet, but it’s so true that the good far outweighs the sad.
For sure and I am quite sure I’ll find myself in time looking to give another pup a good home and plenty of love.
All my sympathies. This must be a tough time for you.
Thanks kindly. It’s a day when life gets you down but plenty of friends and well wishers to lift our spirits at home.
Mike I’m so terribly sorry to learn you went home and went through this loss. We lost our dog last year so I know very well the pain you are feeling. They add so much that is wonderful to our lives! This is a wonderful tribute.
Best wishes,
Laura
A tearful thank you Laura for the kind words. The highs and lows of this past week have been quite a journey. It was a real pleasure meeting you and sharing some movie memories. Thanks a bunch. Hopefully we can do it all again next year.
Sorry to hear this news Mike, you more than most know pictures will always keep Samson with you young and happy.
Thanks Sonny. Appreciate the thought.
Sad news, Mike…always tough to lose a pet, especially when he’s been a part of the family for so long. I love that shot of him in the back of the car…he looks like a very cool dog. RIP, Samson!
Thanks Todd. He was a big baby. Rarely barked and howled when he heard the church bells on Sunday morning. Nice to hear from you.
Very sorry to read your news. Our faithful beagle/basset mix passed away 2 months ago. He reached the age of 12 and his body just gave out, in a steady decline of several months. We miss him, but know that we gave him a good home.
Thanks and pet people can always relate so easily. Sorry for your loss as well. They are so special to have in one’s home and share their love and affection so loyally.
Lovely memories there Mike. Super pictures of Samson, what a cute big boy!. They really are the biggest awesome loveable monster sweeties. What a superb collection of stars with St Bernards you found too. Thanks for sharing buddy, they are a tough post to do but such amazing memories of a good friend.
My wife still mourns her big baby. He was indeed a saint.
I bet she does, he looked the most perfect boy 🙂
Such a loss, Mike. Good memories live forever, so thanks for sharing. I’ve only met two Saints up close and both were super sweet despite their size.
He was the best of friends to anyone who came in contact with him. True meaning of the gentle giant.
