In October, 2009 I took a shot at sending the Clint Walker website a letter in thanks to the enjoyment he has brought me over the years.
Hello Mr. Walker:
Just wanted to say hi and share a couple of fond yet ironic moments from an Ontario Canada fan.
I happened to come across an original Night of the Grizzly poster about a month ago and added it to my collection. I had seen the film many years ago and had always enjoyed it when it was on television in the seventies and eighties while I was growing up. Haven’t seen it in many years……. until by chance I came across it in a hobby store on VHS last week. I watched it and shared the film with my two sons who share their love of westerns with Dad. They know you well as you are a member of The Dirty Dozen, which I have seen numerous times(my favorite) and that my boys have enjoyed with me as well. They are 15 and 12 years of age.
Lastly, I just wanted to say I have always enjoyed your film appearances and Cheyenne shows and I hope you take pride in knowing that they are still enjoyed by many and I’m sure will continue to be by my sons and theirs.
Sincerely,
Mike Perry
Not long after that I did receive a reply.
Howdy Mike;
Thank you for taking the time to let me know that you have enjoyed my work. All the best to you and your family.
Clint Walker
In the days before the giants that appear on screen now, Walker was as big as they come and standing next to Richard Jaeckel above second from the left he was number 1 in the line up known as The Dirty Dozen. As for Night of the Grizzly, it has since turned up on blu ray and I quickly upgraded from the old VHS tape.
It sure made my day getting that comment back from Mr. Walker. I thank him once more.
Very cool! Always impressed when the stars are kind enough to take time and reply.
It sure made my day. Not sure why I don’t try it more often.
What a neat post, Mike! Did you ever see ‘Killdozer’ back in the ’70s, when it aired on television? I found it on-line a few months back…I’ll be watching that one soon, and for the first time since 1974!
Thanks! I remember as a kid seeing that one with the giant space rock giving the dozer power. Like to see it again, youtube?
Yep, on YouTube! I gave it a minute-long test run, and the quality’s not bad. I remember watching a lot of pretty cool made-for-television movies back in the 1970s: Satan’s Triangle, Savages, Where Have All The People Gone, Gargoyles. A lot are available on YouTube, which is great, because I’m sure most – if not all – aren’t available on DVD.
Right about them on youtube. Watched a couple recently. Time Stalkers and The Cat Creature. I remember Peter Graves in Where Have all the People Gone. Gargoyles vaguely.
Never heard of those two you mentioned…I’ll give them a look! I thought Gargoyles was pretty scary (at the time, anyway) for a made-for-TV movie. I think Where Have All the People Gone might’ve sparked my interest in apocalyptic ‘last man on Earth’ films.
I remember everyone reduced to a powdery substance. I can see how that would send you in that direction Kind of like seeing Damnation Alley at the theater as a kid.
Exactly, although…I’ve never seen Damnation Alley. Should I?
silly fun with a cool cast and big cockroaches. lol.
Simply Excellent!
Thank you Sir.
Clint Walker is in the class of John Wayne, Dale Earnhart, James Arness, and other great actors. I get to watch the Cheyenne everyday on The Western channel and if they ever take it off i’ll cancel my Dish programing. The actors and actress had so much better class back then no cursing, hot love stories like they do today. I count Mr Walker as a very close freind even though i’ve never had the privilege to meet. Anyway i could fill the page with memories but if you haven’t guessed yet i love my westerns.
Hi Denny. Well said. I too often refer to some stars as friends though I have never met them. Yes the western is always my go to answer for my favorite genre. Please come again.
Just watching “Night of the grizzly”best of the west …erns shame on old age we don,t get to see the same quality of actors anymore
Westerns are rarely made and rarely have the same magic anymore when they are.
