With the passing of Clint Walker today, the movies lost #1 in The Dirty Dozen line-up. #1 because he was the biggest man in the group that saw him paired during the climatic battle with #12, pint sized Al Mancini. It’s the movie I most often refer to as my all time favorite with that shark movie from 1975 a very close second. To shine the light on Mr. Walker I’ve reached into the vault to unearth this gorgeous one sheet of a movie I watched repeatedly while growing up. I was convinced that Walker was darn near as big as the grizzly.
Clint Walker remains to this day the only actor I’ve ever reached out to and that was purely by a set of chance circumstances. Nice to know he took the time respond as can be seen here in a post that I featured a couple years back.
May he rest in peace.
Sad news. How lovely that he replied back to your letter. The tag line for that poster you are holding is awesome!
Time continues to take away our childhood heroes from yesteryear. Anytime I see him interviewed he seemed to be a very thankful gentleman for the career he was blessed with. And yes this poster is a beauty.
Always a fan, since I was a mere totling (“Cheyenne”)—-enjoy “Fort Dobbs” and “Yellowstone Kelly”. He made a good rare meanie in “The White Buffalo”. Always wondered why Aldrich did not show his death scene in “The Dirty Dozen”.
One of cinema’s great mysteries/ Where is Walker in the final shootout. They show his little buddy bloodied and dying but no Clint down at the crossroads with Donald Duck.
