Time for a poster gallery filled with things we’ve been warned about. Things you just don’t do. If you’re old enough you’ll even recall some classic trailers with an ominous voice telling us of things to come should we not heed the warnings. Then again if you own any of these movies on disc you can always revisit the trailers that are likely included in the bonus features.

Let’s kick things off with an independent feature from director S.F. Brownrigg. From 1973…..

Not looking in the basement must have been a success. Mr. Brownrigg was back in 1974 giving us another warning.

The low budget specialists at Crown International Pictures brought us another Don’t in 1980. With the advancement of telemarketing this warning still holds up today.

Back when movies were rebranded and redistributed under different titles one could see this Don’t. Far better known under the titles Let Sleeping Corpses Lie or better still The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue starring five time Oscar nominee, Arthur Kennedy. If you haven’t seen this 1973 thriller under any title it’s an underrated sleeper in the zombie catalogue and worth seeking out.

To heed all the above warnings I guess you need to be in a house. So why not listen to what this 1979 horror has to say in the first place. Love the look of this poster. Might have to hunt one down.

If you do venture outside in the year 1981 please don’t …..

Just like one time 50’s leading man, Aldo Ray and scream queen Linnea Quigley, one should never …. at least not in this low budget 1979 effort that actually pleads with us on two separate “don’t” accounts.

And if you’ve picked up a Christmas gift a bit early for a loved one or maybe Hammer Horror beauty, Caroline Munro …..

Considering the names involved in this 1973 thriller I think this warning should be firmly obeyed. Donald Sutherland, Julie Christie and Nicolas Roeg gave us a classic must see with this “Don’t”.

Made For TV movies don’t come with a theatrical poster but that doesn’t mean they don’t leave a lasting impression. This 1973 creeper did just that with all of us 70’s kids. Enough so that Guillermo Del Toro remade it years later.

It’s hard to do anything with all these “Don’t” warnings isn’t it? So here’s one to lighten the mood. I can’t see Glenn Ford listening to orders in this military comedy considering Gia Scala, Anne Francis and Eva Gabor are awaiting him at the beach. And who could blame him? Then again I’m sure a modern day producer could take this title and run with it creating a new monster movie or perhaps an episode for the next Creepshow edition.

It’s generally my custom to end these poster galleries with something from my own collection. Turns out I don’t have a “don’t ” poster tucked away for just such emergencies here in the vault. So how about a warning of my own.

If you happen to be down some backwoods country road looking for a rest stop then DON’T stay at the Starlight Hotel even if Neville Brand looks mighty welcoming.

If you choose not to heed my warnings than you just might experience the alternate title of this Tobe Hooper gem.

I’ll close with a friendly warning not to do anything YOU DON’T want to do during the Halloween season.

Stay safe out there and remember, to avoid fainting, keep repeating …. “it’s only a movie, it’s only a movie, it’s only a movie, it’s only a movie, it’s……..”
