It isn’t easy to narrow the field of titles playing at the TCM festival but one title that’s playing is the final film of Noir favorite John Garfield. 1951’s He Ran All The Way. It’ll be tough to pass this one up.
When given a chance to suggest an actor worth discovering to an acquaintance or co-worker, John is one I usually suggest they look for on TCM or home video. For those of you stopping in here I would urge you to do the same if you already haven’t.
If you love Bogie and Cagney then Garfield will fit right in.
Joining fellow contract players for a typical prison back drop setting at Warner’s.
Tangling with Eddie and Ida on the high seas.
No need to advertise suspense on the poster when Garfield was involved.
This list wouldn’t be complete without John lusting after Lana. “Stealing a man’s wife, that’s nothing, but stealing a man’s car, that’s larceny”
Noir can only get better when John meets Marie Windsor. “I didn’t have enough strength to resist corruption, but I was strong enough to fight for a piece of it. ”
The final film at only 39 years of age leaves a big “what if” for cinema history in the years ahead.
A must-see, I’d say. Hope you’re having a good time at TCMfest, you lucky fellow!
Having a good time for sure. Been posting a couple fun pics on Facebook page. Have a look. Hoping to get to the Garfield flick . Such a cool presence on screen.
Yes, that’s a fine movie and one to watch for sure.
Always liked it. Just pre ordered the upcoming box set of Blu rays from Kino on Noir titles it’s included in.
Should look very good. I have the old UK DVD which is really strong so it ought to be top notch in HD.
