Focusing on Kirk Douglas for his 101st Birthday With Posters From the Vault.

I guess there’s no need to go into my love of Kirk Douglas flicks. They’ve been with me since childhood and I’ve featured him here numerous times over the past 3 plus years.

Here’s a look into the vault at some of my classic one sheets and a link to follow for all the movies starring Kirk I’ve featured here. Feel free to have look.

Deserving a pic of it’s own is this classic one sheet.

And of course, getting my mug into a shot from an earlier post.

Lobby Cards? Yes I’ve plenty of those too but then we’d be here all day. A couple examples? Sure.

That’s three isn’t it? Anyway, these borrowed images and a number of other classic lobbies are stored away here somewhere.

Happy Birthday Mr. Douglas.

  1. I should like to call your attention to Kirk’s brilliant performance in: ‘A Letter To Three Wives’ (1949). Note the scene in which he puts his wife’s dreadful employer (Florence Bates) in her place, with his devastating criticism of broadcast advertising, and the rubbish it purveys. The film – although not true to the book – is excellent, but when one thinks of it, one’s mind always returns to this scene.

  2. I should like to call your attention to Kirk’s brilliant performance in: ‘A Letter To Three Wives’ (1949). Quite the best scene in an excellent film – which nevertheless loses much in avoiding the complications of the book – takes place during the dinner party given by Kirk’s wife, Ann Sothern for the dreadful woman who employs her, where Kirk tells the latter what he thinks of advertising agencies like hers, and the broadcast rubbish they purvey.

    • Light at Edge of World one of those cases where the cast and poster are better than the outcome but still, Kirk VS. Yul always worth a look. Brotherhood the famous mafia film that bombed causing the studios to have no faith in Godfather.
