Because of his association with Clint Eastwood he became instantly recognizable in films our home watched and quickly became one of those character actors I loved to see turn up in any film I happened to rent on VHS back in the days before the internet made it easy to find out all the titles this quirky actor appeared in.
Along with Ed Lauter who passed not to long ago, Lewis was one of my favorite go to guys who got their start in the seventies and made the most of the many roles they turned up in.
Love Lewis in Salem’s Lot (1979). RIP.
When he turned up in that I quickly pointed him out. I was catching on to the character actors around that time. Liked him in Dillinger as well in ’73 with a great cast.
Even though I’m an Eastwood fan, I’m not that big a fan of his two ape movies…but I really did like Geoffrey Lewis in both of them (and Beverly D’Angelo as well), and it’s that character that I’ll always remember him for. He’s got a small baseball film coming out next year, his final film, that I’m looking forward to seeing.
I’ll have to look for that. Loved him as Orville in the eastwood fans, Clint fights and he spins the ball cap around.
