This shoot, and Hughes’ tinkering, went on so long that Vincent Price threw a 1 yr anniversary party! Hughes had the ship rebuilt with details you can’t even see on film. Whatever troubles behind the scenes, you’re right, a great fun movie came out of it.
Hughes even dug the pool deeper and refilmed scenes! It’s all in Fleischers book. It’s like watching a serious Noir with comedy scenes of Vincent spliced in. But it works.
